England – Scotland
It’s always interesting when Scotland and England are playing against each other. This match is often called Battle for Britain and on Saturday night we will once again witness these two national teams facing each other. They will meet in a World Cup qualifier from Group F in Glasgow. This game is crucial for Scotland because if they lose, they could really reduce their chances of qualifying for the World Cup in Russia. Right now they are 4th in the group, having won 7 points from 5 games played. They are on two points behind the 2nd team in the group Slovakia and on six points behind the leader England. How we already pointed out, England is leading the group so far. They are almost flawless – four wins and one draw in the first five games. They only lost points during their visit to Slovenia but won against Slovakia, Malta, Scotland, and Lithuania. The most impressive thing is that England didn’t concede either one goal in their five games so far. They have scored 8 goals and kept clean sheets in all of their matches in the group. If they manage to win in Glasgow, they could make a huge step towards winning the group and qualifying directly for the World Cup.As for Scotland, they are not really that consistent during the World Cup qualifiers. They won two games, lost two and made a draw in one. They won precious three points against Slovenia in their last game, which resurrected their chances to at least finish second in the group. These two teams met for the last time at Wembley in November. This game didn’t end too well for the Scots, who lost with 0-3. Daniel Sturridge, Adam Lallana, and Gary Cahill scored for the Three Lions, who won the last Battle for Britain so far.
